Clothes Call

Costume Designer Julie Rhine may just have the sweetest job around. She gets to decide what the stars get to wear on SONNY WITH A CHANCE! How awesome is that? She tells Pixie all about it.

Pixie: How do you get the scoop on the hottest trends?
Julie: I read as many fashion magazines as I can get my hands on, watch runway shows and even get inspiration from shows like PROJECT RUNWAY for fun.

Pixie: Which SONNY character is the coolest dresser?
Julie: I'd say Nico is the hippest and probably the most cutting-edge. He loves clothes and is totally open to trying anything new and exciting.

Pixie: Do any of the actors get to help choose their characters' looks?
Julie: I'm a firm believer in getting the actors' input on how they see the character they're playing on the show. All the actors have made suggestions from time to time. For instance, for Brandon, we've incorporated his love of necklaces and wearing his neckties as a belt, which is a great addition to his wardrobe and sets him apart, style-wise.

Pixie: Do you get any feedback from fans about the outfits?
Julie: I get the most comments about Sonny's orange T-shirt and dress by Free People, which she wears in the main credits. Also, when Sonny went to her prom in the episode "Promises, Prom-misses," she wore a vintage red gown that I made for her, which was inspired by a 1940s gown I saw at a vintage shop.
